Match the beach and the pace first. A good Phuket hotel in the wrong area can still create a tiring trip.
Phuket is a large island, and the wrong base can turn each day into a long road journey. Choose the beach or town that supports most of the trip before comparing individual properties.
There is no island-wide urban rail network. Traffic, hills and the spacing between beaches make route planning important, while short map distances do not always mean comfortable walking.

Kata or Karon offers a balanced starting point with beach access and visitor services.
Bang Tao supports larger properties and a stay-led itinerary, but exact access to the beach and dining varies.
Minimise repeated cross-island journeys and check beach-road crossings, hills and room configuration.
Use Phuket Old Town for urban evenings, then combine it with a separate beach base if swimming is central.
Local buses cover selected routes, but many visitors rely on taxis, transfers or a legally driven rental vehicle. Build the plan around one primary coast or split the stay only when two areas serve clearly different purposes.
Kata and Karon are practical balanced choices. Patong is livelier, while Bang Tao suits a more property-led or villa-focused trip.
Split only when the second area changes the purpose of the stay, such as Old Town plus a beach. For a short trip, one well-chosen coast usually saves time.
It is possible but can involve substantial driving. A better plan prioritises nearby beaches and activities, with only a few deliberate cross-island days.
